Chapter 252: Separation
“Do you know anything about this cultivator’s cultivation method? If he’s not an important disciple of the Yan Family and his cultivation base isn’t high, I could have a good talk with him and probably resolve this smoothly,” Han Li rubbed his nose and said calmly.
Actually, he was well aware that someone who would threaten a mortal woman couldn’t have very profound cultivation. Such a question was just a cautious instinct.
“I already asked Caihuan about this. She said he’s only a foundation establishment stage cultivator with a basic five-level cultivation method. Although he shares the Yan surname, he’s definitely an insignificant figure in the Yan Family. Otherwise, a disciple of some importance wouldn’t live together with us mortals!” Madam Yan, once the head of the Mo Residence, was still extremely clear-headed and organized despite her current downfall.
“That’s no problem then! Later, junior sister can take me there to familiarize myself with the place. I’ll handle this issue for you!” Han Li nodded after hearing this.
“Thank you so much, senior brother! I knew you would help!” Mo Caihuan happily exclaimed nearby.
“Han Li, we truly thank you! Facing the coercion of an immortal cultivator, my daughter and I really wouldn’t know how to deal with it,” Madam Yan said with a look of relief, but then sighed helplessly and added:
“Although there are restrictions here that prevent cultivators from harassing us mortals on the surface, in reality, there are far too many secret abuses. The Yan Family would never truly punish those cultivators! If you’re not careful, mortals who make enemies with cultivators just disappear without a trace — this happens quite often.”
Han Li sensed a hint of powerless resentment in her tone. Compared to the glory she once held controlling life and death in the Mo Residence, living in silent submission was indeed humiliating for Madam Yan.
After a moment of silence, Han Li suddenly asked a question that puzzled him.
“Madam, junior sister is already of marriageable age. Why hasn’t she found a suitable person to marry within the fortress? If she married a cultivator, wouldn’t that give her some support?”
“Marry?”
“I would never marry those Yan Family cultivators!” Caihuan blurted out.
Han Li was surprised by her sharp response. Madam Yan smiled wryly, while Caihuan frowned in displeasure.
“What’s wrong?” Han Li asked.
“Senior brother! The cultivators from the Yan Family treat us mortal women like nothing! Marrying one of them as a wife is worse than being a servant. At the slightest dissatisfaction, they often beat and scold us. I’d rather stay single for life than marry here!” Caihuan spoke quickly and anxiously, clearly very sensitive about the matter.
“You don’t know, senior brother. A friend junior sister made here married a cultivator from the fortress. Not only was she ignored, but she was regularly abused. After her looks faded, she was casually divorced with a flimsy excuse and sent back home. The ending was tragic! And that cultivator immediately remarried a younger, prettier woman. Sigh! Cultivators like Caihuan’s stepfather, who are kind-hearted, are rare here. I don’t want Caihuan to suffer like that! As for marrying a commoner, junior sister’s standards are too high, so she wouldn’t be interested!” Madam Yan explained Caihuan’s attitude.
“I see. But junior sister can’t remain unmarried forever, right?” Han Li frowned and said naturally.
When he said this, Madam Yan’s expression shifted; she seemed to want to say something but hesitated and stayed silent. Caihuan also suddenly lowered her head and became quiet.
Han Li realized the atmosphere had turned awkward, as if there was something unsaid.
He quickly changed the subject:
“Junior sister, lead me to the cultivator’s place first. Let’s resolve his harassment issue first!”
“Okay!”
Caihuan hesitated briefly but agreed. Madam Yan did not oppose.
