Chapter 24: Shock and Recovery
Watching the rabbit in front of him continue to grow bigger and bigger, swelling relentlessly.
Han Li sensed that something was wrong. Suddenly recalling something, he threw the porcelain bowl—now regarded as as poisonous as a venomous snake—into the medicinal field beside him, then turned and dashed away, stopping only when he was about ten yards away from the rabbit.
Just as he was about to look back, two explosions rang out almost simultaneously—one from the front, one from behind. Han Li shivered sharply, turning around to see that indeed the two rabbits had been blown apart, their bodies burst open and torn into several pieces, blood and flesh scattered gruesomely across the ground.
Where the rabbits had been tied, two craters appeared. Around the pits lay scattered remains of the rabbits, blood and chunks of meat splattered everywhere—it was a horrifying scene, truly unbearable to witness.
Han Li exhaled deeply and sat down on the ground. If he hadn’t reacted quickly this time, he might have been caught in the blast radius of the rabbit’s explosion. Although he might not have been seriously injured, getting drenched in rabbit blood and meat fragments would have been an extremely unpleasant experience.
Once his heart calmed, Han Li got up and approached the pits.
He examined the gore-filled scene, then glanced at the porcelain bowl that had been smashed to bits in the medicinal field. He was speechless.
Han Li had hoped to find some miraculous elixir in the green liquid, but instead, it turned out to be something terrifying. Poison is poison, but for the rabbits to die so miserably! Now, no matter what, he wouldn’t touch that stuff again. It was just too frightening!
Han Li was no stranger to deadly poisons. Under Doctor Mo’s tutelage over the past few years, he had seen many lethal toxins that could cause death with the slightest wound, but none had claimed a death as horrific as this.
Fortunately, Han Li’s psychological endurance was strong enough to remain calm in such a grim situation and stay a while longer before deciding to leave.
Since noon was approaching, he needed to deliver the prepared elixir to Senior Brother Li. All the aftermath here could wait until after the delivery.
With that in mind, Han Li didn’t give the explosion site another glance. Leaving all the troubles for later, he returned to his residence, rested briefly, then took the medicine and headed to the entrance of Divine Hand Valley.
Han Li was punctual. When he arrived at the valley entrance, it was exactly noon. But Li Feiyu looked like he had been anxiously waiting there for a long time already.
He was alone at the valley’s exit, wearing a white brocade robe, but still carrying the long sword that had left a deep impression on Han Li. When Han Li arrived, Li Feiyu wore a worried expression as he anxiously scanned the valley towards the mountain.
Upon seeing Han Li, Li Feiyu’s anxious look vanished, a faint smile curling the corners of his mouth.
“Junior Brother Han, you’re really punctual! You said you’d arrive at noon, and you actually arrived exactly at noon. I’ve been waiting for half an hour already,” Li Feiyu half-joked, half-complained.
“Sorry, I spent too much time preparing the medicine yesterday and didn’t sleep until late. I got up late this morning, and after finishing what I had to do, it was just noon when I arrived,” Han Li replied half-truthfully.
“Junior Brother Han, the medicine… is it prepared?” Li Feiyu, out of anxiety, stammered slightly.
Han Li did not answer directly. With a calm smile, he slowly produced a palm-sized medicine packet from his bosom and tossed it to Li Feiyu.
“Before taking the Bone Marrow Extracting Pill each time, first dissolve a spoonful of the powder in cool boiled water and drink it. This will reduce the pain you endure.”
“Thank you, Junior Brother Han! Thank you so much!” Li Feiyu was ecstatic. Even a slight relief in his pain was a huge blessing. The pain from taking the Bone Marrow Extracting Pill made him shudder. He had tried many painkillers before, but none worked. Since Junior Brother Han knew everything about the pill and had taken it himself, perhaps this medicine would actually help.
