Chapter 212: Sudden Realization
Logically speaking, being accepted as a disciple by a core formation stage cultivator is an unimaginable blessing for a low-rank immortal cultivator. But after hearing this, Han Li felt stunned and instinctively sensed something was wrong.
With his talent and cultivation method, there was no way such good fortune would fall upon him. As for the claim that he had made great contributions to Yellow Maple Valley and would be richly rewarded, Han Li didn’t believe it at all. If this Grandmaster had won the bet and on a whim accepted him as a meritorious disciple, that might have been sincere. But clearly having lost miserably and still wanting to take him as a disciple—that was truly intriguing!
While Han Li’s mind raced with countless thoughts, Grandmaster Li’s expression grew displeased.
After saying he would take Han Li as a disciple, he had expected the young man to be overjoyed and to immediately agree. But surprisingly, Han Li just stood there dumbfounded, his face full of shock, not responding at once. This annoyed him slightly.
However, on the surface, Grandmaster Li still had to maintain his dignity, so he calmly said again:
“Han Li, if you don’t wish to apprentice under me, just say so plainly. I won’t force you! I can also give you several magical artifacts as compensation!”
Hearing this, Han Li realized the words were superficially polite but clearly hinted at dissatisfaction. He didn’t need to think hard to understand the consequences of offending this Grandmaster! Plus, for a qi refining stage disciple like him to refuse a core formation stage cultivator’s invitation was highly unusual. Refusing now could only invite greater trouble.
Thinking this through, he gritted his teeth. Regardless of what intentions the Grandmaster might have, he decided to get through this moment first. Seeing the situation, if he refused, there was no good outcome in store.
“I am honored to become a disciple under the Grandmaster! Just now I was too excited and forgot to speak properly. Please forgive me!” Han Li’s face flushed bright red as he pretended to just have come back to his senses, speaking eagerly.
Then, very politely, Han Li kowtowed several times to Grandmaster Li and performed the formal disciple acceptance ceremony.
“Very good! From today on, you are my disciple, Li Huayuan’s. This Jade Light Saber will be my gift to you.” Li Huayuan smiled warmly, helped Han Li to his feet, and handed him a jade-green long saber. Its spiritual radiance confirmed it was a top-tier magical artifact.
Han Li solemnly took the saber with both hands, kowtowed again in respect, then stood up seemingly overjoyed.
The other disciples around stared dumbfounded, their eyes burning with envy as they looked at Han Li. They wished it were them receiving the magical artifact, not the despised Han Li.
Though Han Li didn’t understand exactly what others were thinking, the fiery gazes directed at him made him guess most of it, feeling both amused and exasperated.
If possible, he wished the Grandmaster had taken a liking to someone else, not him—the unlucky one! He still vividly remembered the lesson from his former master, Doctor Mo. Now here was another master with even greater abilities and ulterior motives. Han Li was truly speechless.
“Once you successfully establish your foundation, I will personally take you to my place and accept you as a formal disciple. If you fail to establish your foundation, it’s okay; I will still guide you with your cultivation method.” Grandmaster Li instructed Han Li.
“Yes, Master!” Han Li obediently agreed, having no other choice.
“Alright, it’s getting late. Let’s return to Yellow Maple Valley!” Li Huayuan glanced at the sky and said.
The group mounted the Silver Armored Horned Python again and flew for several days, finally returning to Yellow Maple Valley.
Upon entering the valley, Li Huayuan went to the council hall with two attendants to discuss affairs. The others dispersed and returned to their residences, waiting quietly for their rewards in a few days.
