Chapter 206: Unexpected
The girl’s words obviously stunned the Moon Veil Sect disciples. From their experience over the past two days, any top-tier demonic beast trapped by their sect’s ancestor would not be able to break free from the ring magical treasure’s restriction so quickly. How did this beast escape so fast?
Though puzzled, they did not dare to ignore the girl’s warning. Instantly, they became extremely cautious, and their red and blue light beams attacked even more fiercely. In an instant, more than a dozen blood holes appeared on the Ink Flood Dragon’s body, its crimson blood staining a large area of the swamp below.
This only further enraged the dragon. It opened its mouth and let out a long, piercing screech that resonated throughout the underground world, causing everyone present to feel dizzy and disoriented, as if the world was spinning.
“Shhh,” a strange tearing sound echoed through the air!
When everyone regained their senses and looked carefully, their faces changed drastically.
The ring magical treasure remained motionless in midair, but the Ink Flood Dragon inside suddenly vanished into thin air, leaving only a tattered piece of black-scaled skin dangling and swaying on the ring. The demonic beast had actually shed its skin and escaped!
Not only were the Moon Veil Sect disciples shocked, but even the young girl was astonished by what she saw.
Her earlier shout to be cautious was not because she had anticipated the dragon’s shedding maneuver.
Rather, the dragon’s escaping force was too powerful; her magical power was insufficient to continue restraining the beast. Given the weakening of the restriction from the Vermilion Bird Ring, the dragon should have been aware of this. So why go through such an energy-draining act? Could it be...?
The girl’s heart skipped a beat as she thought of a terrifying possibility. Her face instantly turned pale as she hurriedly searched around for the Ink Flood Dragon, hoping to confirm her dreadful suspicion.
“There it is!”
A sharp-eyed Moon Veil Sect disciple was the first to spot the beast swimming just beneath the top of the underground world. It had completely transformed, looking very different from before.
Its once black body turned snowy white and scaleless. Its length had grown from three or four zhang to five or six, and it had thickened considerably. The injuries now left only faint scars, barely visible. Most surprising of all, a pair of black sharp horns, about an inch long, had sprouted from its triangular snake-like head, glimmering faintly. On its belly appeared a pair of white claws, razor-sharp. The beast had evolved from a snake into a flood dragon, resembling the legendary flood dragons perfectly.
The Moon Veil Sect disciples were naturally filled with suspicion and awe upon seeing the Ink Flood Dragon’s transformation. But before they could react, the girl at the front, her face ashen, gave an order that shocked everyone.
“Everyone, withdraw immediately! The Ink Flood Dragon has evolved to the second stage! Its power is comparable to a mid-level foundation establishment cultivator. Even combined, we cannot defeat it. Escape now! I can still hold it off for a little while.”
After solemnly saying this, the girl beckoned and the Vermilion Bird Ring flew back to her, positioning itself in a completely defensive stance.
Some of the disciples hesitated upon hearing this. Although the dragon had just shed its skin and transformed dramatically, they had only just dealt it a severe injury. It was hard to believe that the beast’s strength could change so drastically in the blink of an eye.
But that slight hesitation was enough for some to regret forever!
Suddenly, the white Ink Flood Dragon moved like lightning, rushing above the Moon Veil Sect disciples. It opened its mouth wide, continuously spitting out a stream of purple liquid.
“Dodge! Don’t get hit!” the girl shouted anxiously, her face showing worry. Instantly, the Vermilion Bird Ring expanded several times its size, blocking most of the purple liquid.
