Chapter 191: Divergent Intentions and Solitude
In the western part of the central region, within a hollow known for producing rare medicinal herbs, three immortal cultivators were fiercely battling a three-eyed fire wolf. A middle-aged man dressed in the Great Sword Sect’s attire wielded a cyan Greatsword, blocking most of the fire wolf’s attacks, while an elderly man in yellow robes and a young man in gray Daoist robes assisted from the left and right flanks.
Before long, after enduring a powerful fireball, the Great Sword Sect disciple struck down the beast’s head with a single sword stroke. He then sheathed his Greatsword and laughed heartily towards the sky.
“Brother Meng truly has profound magical power; he managed to kill this three-eyed fire wolf with just one sword! No wonder he’s a top disciple of the Great Sword Sect…” The elderly man in yellow robed praised effusively as he hurried over, his face not flushing even a bit from the flattery.
If Han Li had been here, he would have recognized this elder as Xiang Zhili, who once earnestly invited him to form an alliance of the weak. However, the young fellow who accompanied him back then was not present—apparently separated during the teleportation.
“Hehe! If it weren’t for Brother Xiang and Daoist Li assisting, I wouldn’t have succeeded so easily!” The middle-aged man in black was quite humble.
“There’s no need for politeness, Brother Meng! You deserve the credit for eliminating this demonic beast—it’s only natural,” said the young Daoist with a calm but confident tone, despite his youth, showing great maturity.
The black-clad man smiled briefly at these words but quickly offered more modest replies.
“Speaking of which, those still fighting among themselves are truly foolish! If they knew that the three of us, from different sects, could unite to hunt demons and gather herbs together, I wonder if they’d be shocked enough to drop their jaws!” The man in black suddenly changed the topic, speaking with a sly grin.
“That’s right! It’s all thanks to Brother Xiang’s strong push! Without his clear analysis, Brother Meng and I might still be fighting each other to the death!” The Daoist nodded repeatedly in agreement.
“No, no! Both of you are exceptionally wise; I am only stating the truth! There is no need for everyone to risk their lives over things impossible to obtain. Instead of wasting time killing each other, wouldn’t it be better to sweep all the rare herbs outside the central region? Moreover, if we cooperate, dealing with these demonic beasts is a piece of cake!” Xiang Zhili chuckled smoothly, continuing to modestly decline.
Hearing this, the other two again engaged in animated mutual praise.
“Alright, let’s quickly start gathering the Fire Dragon Herb! Everyone takes an equal share!” The man in black couldn’t contain his eagerness any longer and said, then headed toward a few red plants behind the fire wolf’s corpse.
Xiang Zhili and the Daoist exchanged meaningful glances and smiled, then readily followed.
Neither noticed the flicker of a sinister expression that briefly appeared on the black-clad man’s face before vanishing.
…
To the south of the central region, in a desolate sandy place, two disciples of the Moon Veil Sect—a man and a woman—were repeatedly stabbing at the sand with the ice spike technique, seemingly searching for something.
But after a long time, they found nothing.
“That bitch, where the hell is she hiding? Once I find her, I’ll gouge out her eyeballs!” The female disciple was stunningly beautiful, but her words were vicious and cruel, chilling the man beside her.
“Sister, it’s better to give up! The time agreed upon with the sect is almost up. If we don’t leave soon, we’ll be late!” The male disciple spoke timidly, clearly afraid of the female.
“Hmph! It’s all your fault, you useless waste. You couldn’t keep an eye on a mere ten-layer cultivation girl, letting her slip away right under our noses! If word gets out, it’ll ruin the reputation of us Twin Beauties of Moon Veil! Seriously, how could the sect allow a pathetic guy like you to be my cultivation partner!” The woman ignored his words at first, but once she heard them, she furiously pointed her finger at his nose and scolded him.
