Chapter 13: The Strange Phenomenon Begins
Knowing that Han Li had an injury on his foot, Zhang Tie personally brought the meal into his room, intending to accompany him while eating.
Han Li watched as Zhang Tie clumsily moved around his room—shifting chairs, rearranging the table. After a long while of bustling about, he finally managed to get everything ready for the meal. Han Li couldn’t help but smile inwardly, though he felt more touched than amused.
Once seated at the table, the two chatted about trivial matters inside the gate while stuffing food into their mouths, occasionally exchanging their training insights.
Whenever the topic turned to each other’s “elephant armor technique,” Zhang Tie would groan and roll his eyes in frustration.
At present, Zhang Tie had developed an almost fearful aversion to the “elephant armor technique.” Although he had only practiced the first level, Doctor Mo had tortured him so relentlessly that he was constantly complaining. Not only did he have to soak in foul-tasting medicinal concoctions at fixed times, but Doctor Mo would also periodically beat him with a wooden stick, claiming it was to temper his sinews and bones.
These harsh training methods caused him to endure many sleepless nights. His whole body was swollen and sore; every time he touched the wooden bed, the pain forced him to grimace and grit his teeth.
For him, it was truly a nightmare.
On the other hand, Zhang Tie deeply envied the nameless incantation that Han Li practiced.
He thought that every day, he could just sit cross-legged like a monk and chant scriptures. When Zhang Tie said this, Han Li could only respond with speechless silence.
Han Li could understand Zhang Tie’s dread of the higher levels of the elephant armor technique. Anyone would be restless and uneasy knowing they still had to face torments magnitudes worse than before.
The fact that Zhang Tie had persisted this far without giving up earned Han Li’s great admiration.
If it were him, he absolutely would not train in such a self-torturing martial arts, even if it would make him a top-tier expert overnight.
As they talked, the dinner was nearly finished. After quickly tidying up the bowls and chopsticks, Zhang Tie stood and took his leave, reminding Han Li to rest early and let his foot heal.
Han Li stood at the door, watching Zhang Tie leave before hurrying back inside. He shut all the doors and windows tightly, leaving only a small skylight open for ventilation. Only then did he take the bottle out of his bag and examine it again.
After all, Han Li was just a boy of about ten years old. After fiddling with the bottle for some time without any clue, he began to feel bored. Coupled with his injured foot and mental fatigue, he found himself unconsciously leaning against the bed with the bottle in hand, dozing off.
He had no idea how much time had passed when, in a deep sleep, Han Li suddenly felt an icy sensation radiating from one of his hands.
Startled, Han Li shivered and forced his heavy eyelids open, groggily looking down at the hand that was causing the strange feeling.
Suddenly, he sat upright, his mouth wide open, drool spilling from the corner without him noticing. All traces of sleep vanished as he was completely stunned by what he saw.
Thin strands of visible white light were streaming down through the only open skylight, all converging onto the bottle in his hand. These formed countless rice-grain-sized white light points, wrapping the entire bottle in a delicate layer of white glow.
The white light was gentle and not dazzling in the slightest. The icy sensation was transmitted from this faint white glow.
Han Li swallowed the now-chilly saliva in his mouth, suddenly awakening. Like the bottle was scorching hot, he flung it aside and scrambled to the other side of the room to hide.
After cautiously observing for a while and seeing no danger, he carefully crept back.
The bottle, enveloped in the white light, looked extraordinarily beautiful and enticing, carrying a hint of mystery.
