Chapter 109: Paying a Visit
“That Young Master Wu is truly detestable. To forge a fake letter and even use Father’s name to force my eldest sister to marry him—it's infuriating,” Mo Caihuan said bitterly, clearly harboring deep hatred for Wu Jianming.
“But luckily, it was your eldest sister he named. If he had demanded someone like you or Fengwu, I honestly wouldn’t know what to do! With your and Fengwu's temperaments, how could you ever tolerate dealing with such a hypocrite? It’s just a pity for Yuzhu; I wonder if her husband will blame me when he returns,” Madam Yan sighed softly.
“Mother, how could Father blame you? It was Eldest Sister who voluntarily suggested dealing with this Young Master Wu, wasn't it?” Mo Caihuan quickly comforted her mother.
“My foolish child, Yuzhu had to do this for the sake of the Mo Residence and the Thunder Flood Society! But I would only let your eldest sister entertain that impostor so much—I would never truly marry her off to him. If this drags on too long, we’ll have to cut ties and capture him!” Madam Yan’s voice grew cold by the end of her sentence.
After Madam Yan’s words, the room fell silent again. Both mother and daughter clearly understood what “cutting ties” meant.
“When will Father finally return?” Mo Caihuan asked softly after a long pause.
“Your father said before leaving that he would be back in at least two or three years, at most five or six,” Madam Yan replied gloomily.
“But it’s been nearly ten years now, and I can hardly remember what Father looks like!” Mo Caihuan said slowly.
“Don’t worry! Your father is a great man with extraordinary skills; nothing bad will happen to him! He must have been delayed by some important matter, and he will surely return to the Mo Residence soon.” Madam Yan spoke as if comforting her daughter, but also herself.
“Oh, by the way, Second Sister Fengwu made a spirit medicine that refreshes and beautifies. She asked me to bring some for you to try, Mother. I heard it works very well!” The girl suddenly changed the subject to break the heavy atmosphere.
“You child...” Madam Yan trailed off.
...
The two women then chatted about daily matters. Han Li couldn’t hear anything more useful.
From their conversation, Han Li had already discerned that Madam Yan and Doctor Mo shared a deep affection, so they were trustworthy. After some thought, he realized that although the Mo Residence knew that Young Master Wu was a fraud, it would be better to have some contact with them. After all, the poisonous curse on him might flare up anytime, so it was best to first get hold of the warm sun jade.
With that in mind, Han Li reached into his chest and pulled out Doctor Mo’s token—a dragon-shaped ring. Then, quietly, he walked to the window and tossed the ring through the paper-covered window into the room.
A clear “clink” sounded as the ring landed, followed by exclamations inside the house.
After a moment, Madam Yan’s calm but dignified voice came from inside:
“Who is the honored guest visiting this humble abode? Madam Yan apologizes for not coming out to greet you!”
Han Li smiled faintly and was about to respond when he heard a surprised female voice.
“How strange! The thing thrown in is a ring! This ring looks so familiar; it’s very similar to the one Mother wears!”
“Mother! Come look!” Clearly, Mo Caihuan had already picked up the ring and handed it to Madam Yan.
“A Patterned Dragon Ring!” Madam Yan exclaimed.
Hearing that the token was recognized, Han Li lightly knocked twice on the door and then announced in a clear voice: “Disciple Han Li, sent by Master Mo, comes to pay respects to Master’s wife!”
The room fell into silence at Han Li’s words. It was obvious that his message stunned those inside.
“Come in,” Madam Yan’s voice finally said after a long pause.
Han Li gently pushed open the door and stepped inside.
As soon as he entered, Han Li saw a stunning woman in her thirties sitting on a wooden chair. Behind her stood a beautiful girl around fifteen or sixteen years old, whose resemblance to the woman was unmistakable—they were clearly closely related by blood.
