Chapter 103: Subjugation

Han Li stood with his back to the Black Bear, facing the crowd engaged in combat. Although the Black Bear had deliberately softened his footsteps, there was no way he could escape Han Li’s keen senses.

So when the Black Bear was only a few steps away and suddenly lunged forward with a fierce, demonic roar, Han Li lightly shifted his body and, in an instant, mysteriously turned to face the Black Bear, a faint smile playing on his lips.

The Black Bear was startled, but having already launched himself forward, retreat was impossible. Helpless, he shouted loudly and stretched out his two large, black-haired hands, clawing fiercely toward Han Li. In his heart, he prayed that this young man had little combat experience and would be intimidated by his ferocious appearance, allowing him to land a decisive blow.

Seeing this burly black man recklessly attacking him, Han Li’s expression suddenly darkened. In a flash, he vanished from the Black Bear’s sight.

Alarmed, the Black Bear hurriedly halted his steps, intending to flee, but suddenly felt a chill on the back of his neck. A gleaming sword tip pierced his throat, then abruptly disappeared. The Black Bear grabbed his throat desperately, blood spurting from the wound. He tried to say something, but only a few hoarse sounds escaped his throat before he collapsed to the ground.

Sun Ergou’s face had turned ashen. He had witnessed with his own eyes how the young man had ghosted behind the Black Bear and effortlessly drawn a flexible sword from his waist to stab through the Black Bear’s throat. Now, the young man was pulling out a white cloth, wiping the shiny blade.

The young man seemed to sense Sun Ergou’s gaze, raised his head, and smiled lightly at him.

Sun Ergou immediately recoiled as if faced with a venomous snake. He hurriedly withdrew his gaze. Now, instead of feeling any joy at the death of his rival, the Black Bear, he was filled with a sorrow akin to the fox mourning the death of the rabbit.

He had fully realized that this young man was no fat sheep to be devoured, but a deadly death god. And these kids, including himself, had foolishly rushed into the palms of these lords of death. This was truly walking straight into the jaws of death!

Sun Ergou’s only hope now was that his men could subdue the burly man, giving them a fighting chance to negotiate terms and save their own skins.

But when Sun Ergou looked clearly at the situation on the burly man’s side, he was stunned.

More than twenty burly men lay on the ground, covered in blood, completely motionless. The burly man stood upright with his arms crossed, and upon noticing Sun Ergou looking his way, coldly met his gaze.

Though the burly man’s face was obscured by a cloak, Sun Ergou felt a beast-like, bloodthirsty aura radiate from him, turning his pale face even more ghastly.

Han Li had been quietly observing Sun Ergou’s changing expression. Seeing that he had no martial arts skills and was trembling with fear, Han Li had no interest in dealing with him personally.

"Quhun, kill him!" Han Li finally turned back and spoke calmly.

“No! I surrender! I’m willing to give all my wealth to the young master! I’m willing to serve you like a beast of burden! I know all the major and minor secrets of Jiayuan City and can serve you with all my strength!” Sun Ergou, terrified by the burly man advancing like a demon, collapsed weakly to the ground, babbling desperately for mercy.

“Eh!” Han Li hadn’t intended to pay attention to Sun Ergou’s words, but when he heard that the man was knowledgeable about all the affairs of Jiayuan City, his interest was piqued.

“Hold on for now,” Han Li called out, stopping Quhun who was about to strangle Sun Ergou, and stepped forward a few paces until he stood before him.

“You’re very familiar with Jiayuan City?” Han Li asked with a smile, appearing very friendly.

But having just witnessed Han Li’s ruthless side, Sun Ergou dared not be careless. He stammered nervously, “Very familiar, extremely familiar. I grew up in Jiayuan City; I know every blade of grass and tree here intimately!”
