The setting was a certain tavern.
Avoiding the usual noisy, crowded taverns filled with loud drunksâwhich were known for being cheap, quick, and busyâtoday was different. This place had an atmosphere more like a bar. Still, it was a proper tavern, so there was no shortage of drinks.
Inside the tavern, four women surrounded a single table, clinking their glasses together.
After all, today was a lively girls' gatheringâa rare and enjoyable time that hardly ever happened in the adventurer circles.
âAh, itâs so nice to have more girls around.â
âP-pleased to meet you!â
In response to the soft voice of one female adventurer, the rookie adventurerâtallest among the fourâresponded shyly.
The first was a mid-level hand axe user, who fought with a well-balanced style, wielding a buckler in one hand. The other was a newcomer who had just become an adventurer a month ago and hadnât yet found a weapon that suited her, so she was using a spear she could handle for now.
âI wish we could do this girls-only drinking more often, but itâs so hard to gather everyone.â
âMe too, but I guess itâs even harder for adventurers.â
The veteran archer, who was the leader of the spear userâs group, downed her ale, and the slightly older female staff member working at the adventurers' guild chuckled softly.
Being among the few female adventurers, they shared a unique connection. There were many things they could only talk about with other womenâmainly complaints or love stories.
âThank you so much for keeping me company today!â
âItâs no problem. When I was new, I had people help me too.â
âYeah, I want to support hardworking girls like you.â
âYou donât need to be so considerate as a rookie.â
But this time, the gathering was a girls' party specifically for the rookie adventurer.
Seeing the newcomer feeling down because she hadnât yet formed a fixed party, the archer reached out to her. âIf you want to talk, Iâm here,â she said. The rookie nodded with a pitiful expression.
The archer quickly gathered members, and thatâs how they came to be here. Everyone agreed without hesitation.
âOoh, this is delicious!â
âWe usually canât have things like this.â
âWhen you order salad or something, you get complaints, right?â
âIs that because of the party?â
âExactly.â
Neither the archer nor the hand axe user was particularly bothered by that.
They had gotten used to it, you might say. You canât fuss over it every time, and they certainly didnât have enough money to order different dishes every time. Of course, sometimes they indulged like tonight.
âBoys sure eat a lot.â
âThey eat way too much. And have you heard? They say things like, âI want bigger armsâ or âIf I slack off, I lose weight and thatâs a problem.ââ
âMy guys say the same! Something about muscles! So unfair, always the boys!â
âOh well, itâs nice to be able to eat a lot; itâs a sign of good health.â
The hand axe user was about to protest, âThatâs not the point,â but the archer quickly popped a pickle into her mouth, silencing her with a dissatisfied glare.
This wasnât the tavern of rowdy adventurers where shouting was the norm. They couldnât be too loud here.
âYou two seem pretty close with your party members.â
The rookie slumped her shoulders and muttered softly. The three others looked at her.
The female staff gently patted her curled-up back. The archer set a glass of ale in front of her.
âWell, I think I understand what youâre worried about.â
âHuh?â
The rookieâs face brightened at the archerâs words.
âYou canât find anyone to accept requests with you, right?â
âY-yes, thatâs it!â
âWe went through the same thing.â
To the rookie, both the archer and hand axe user were veterans.
Such skilled adventurers had similar experiences before. Of course, they werenât at their current level from the start. They were just as much beginners as she was.
Still, the rookie thought of another cause and slumped again.
