This is the story of an adventurer who applied for apprenticeship under Jill in Chapter 109.
As always, you donāt need to read this to understand the main story.
Hello, Iām a humble adventurer.
Maybe because Iām a dog beastman, the other adventurers around me just call me āDog.ā I never introduced myself like that, and there are other dog beastmen too, but still.
But female non-adventurers sometimes call me āPuppy-kun.ā Even though Iām already eighteen, itās a bit childish and embarrassing, but honestly, being called that and getting attention from beautiful women isnāt something I dislike. Sorry about that.
My day starts in a cramped inn.
āā¦ā¦!ā
I wake up suddenly. I think my waking up is pretty good.
I carefully sit up so I donāt bump my head on the bottom of the bunk bed above me, then sniff the morning air. Sometimes thereās a roommate who came back drunk last night, and mostly itās a bunch of guys, so it doesnāt smell great, but even so, I like the faint crispness of the morning air in that.
While feeling my ears, which had flattened against my head during sleep, naturally rising, I yawn. I stretch forward like a forward bend, reaching my hands as far forward as possibleāit feels good.
Iām used to snoring and sleep-talking around here. It doesnāt bother me at all.
Since I donāt belong to a party, all my roommates are adventurers like me. This isnāt an inn solely for adventurers, but the narrow room lined with three bunk beds, with such narrow aisles that two people can barely pass each other, clearly caters mostly to adventurers.
Those with parties usually rent a whole room for their group, and those who are higher ranked and have money might rent two or three double or triple rooms. I want to be like that soon.
āAll right.ā
I mutter softly, climb over the low bed railing, and start preparing quietly so as not to disturb the still-sleeping others.
I yank out a large basket fixed under the bed, but it turns out it belongs to the person in the upper bunk, so I gently put it back. That was a mistake. I thought it was mine, but it wasnāt. Then I grab the basket next to it and pull it out, lightly checking my belongings.
Stealing among adventurers is rare because if caught, youād be ostracized, but itās not zero, so I check just in case. I donāt carry anything valuable enough to steal, but consumables cost money and are harder to notice if stolen, so I canāt be careless.
Though I've never had anything stolen, and I probably wouldnāt notice if one or two items disappeared.
āYeah.ā
Everythingās there.
Now itās time to change clothes. I take off the borrowed sleepwear and toss it on the bed. If you put your sleepwear in the big basket outside the room later, the inn staff will wash it for you.
I put on my inner clothes first, but donāt put on arm or leg armor or weapons yet. Theyāre really uncomfortable and heavy, and I get back pain, so I only gear up right before heading out.
āArmor takes up so much spaceā¦ā
Maybe itās because I recently bought new gauntlets.
I shove the ones about to fly out back into the basket, then slide it back under the bed. Then I reach under the mattress and take out a cloth bag containing my money.
I put it in a leather waist pouch, and finally, Iām ready. The innās dining hall should still be open.
āUgh⦠Oh, Dog. Still early as always.ā
āMorning!ā
As I leave the room, one of my roommates is sitting up on the top bunk.
Adventurers get up early, so I expect more to wake up soon. I answer the small greeting quietly to the one scratching their belly while yawning, wave back at the raised hand, and head out.
I smell bread baking, so itās probably the usual bread and soup menu today.
I stop by the washbasin to wash my face and flatten my bed hair. When I arrive at the dining hall, only five people are there.
There are four tables with four seats each. Itās one of the larger inns, but when crowded, thereās no seating, and sometimes people grab chairs from elsewhere to eat standing up.
